Merry Christmas!
Danilo.
Thank you very much, dear Danilo, I will check it. Anyway, independing two (2) subspecies, or "geografical variations" of this beautifull species, were completely destroyed by people in past, and other two are extremely rare - we should be happy about still good number of D. d. dussumieri in nature and ZOO Gardens available. And, in the case, the owners keep and take care about them well, they are always giving full satisfaction back.
As example, initial captive stock at one of captive bred farm in Mauritius contained 10 heads of adults (imported from Madagascar, not from Seychelles directly) in total only, having 130 fully adult
heads in total at present time, and captive born production of offsprings in quantity of 1,200 heads (I am repeating in words - one thousand twohundred heads)!!!
It is better production than in their place of origine, i.e. in Seychelles. Also, they are having the biggest male of D. d. dussumieri on the world, in the age of over 90 years, and weight over 300.00 kgs. It is recommended to any visitor to Mauritius, to see this beautifull animal!
With great love in Tortoises,
Yours sincerely, Marco
