you did the right thing , it's more easy to see the photos the way you made it . thank you and thanks for the nice comments .

About my animals and the photos i thought after we went to tartarughe beach event , nothing could surprise us anymore,but i'm very very happy you guys like my work , as it doesn't happen in my country , i mean , the turtle owners in portugal may be counted by hand , there are only a few . Portugal has many snake enthusiasts that's all .
probably i met some of you in the 2007 event and i'm sure will meet in person in 2008 event as i'm planning to go again .:)
Saluti a tutti !
p.s. i'm a quick learner so let me stay here for 1 month or 2 and i'll start writing in italian , sorry again for don't write italian :(

I'm sure you'll learn Italian very well! ;)

May we still see photos of the environment you create for your small tortoises? They're beautiful and I think also of interest to take inspiration! :D

@ mithril
i've now ~70 turtles and tortoises , i'm essencially a collector , i didn't paste other turtles and other photos here because i didn't find it attractive .in hatchlings and juveniles it's just a box common named as turtle table without substrate with only a uv a ceramic heater and a shallow water dish .

@vgirlai
always learning my friend ! i'm not veterinary so i supposed it was an ascaris lumbricoides but in fact could be any other ascaris type .
one common error in desparasitation is to do it in just one time and one substance but it should be phased like day1 day15/day1 day3 and with a combination of 2 or 3 different agents.
besides if the dosis is wrong the pathologic agents gain a certain resistence and the next time they're not vulnerable anymore .
this particular animal i bought it just 1 year ago from a private and it's an adult female of testudo graeca ibera bought illegally in tounisia by a tourist 9 or 10 years ago .as it was the wrong time for desparasitation process and she had a good weight i did let her hibernate and decided only 1 month ago to desparasite . this parasites came alive in feces as the desparasitation agents dont kill 'em , just knock the parasites down .she still have small white parasites in feces as probably the adult parasite eggs already eccloded inside .she gained almost 100gr in the last month so we could make an idea how the internal parasites were killing her slowly .need to wait and keep analysing feces to see if any parasites still come out to take the next procedure , if needed .
when the animals are sub-adults or adults it's no big deal to deal with parasites while the tortoise is resistent and it's easy to administrate the products , the major problem is to deal with juveniles species which are very vulnerable and to administrate the medicine could be very tought .i remember one time i took out another ascaris , ~15cm , from a testudo graeca with just 10cm of shield lenght , amazing . the animal died after 1 month or so .. :(

Hi ! I love this species and I hope I'll keep it someday. I have (a lot of) questions :
-Why are captive asian Testudo graeca terrestris much brightest than those available in the USA & Europe ? Different selection ? Different subspecies ? ...
-Do you keep the golden greek more like a Graeca or more like a kleinmani ?
-Do they hibernate ?
-Do you succeed in breeding them ?
-Are your terrestris from Syria or from Lebanon ?

Thanks ;):)

Enea your experience is very interesting and profit for others breeders of tortoises.
I'm not a veterinary too, but I suppose that this worm is an Ascaris similar to Ascaris lumbricoides to parasite men because the human metabolism is different from tortoises metabolism, but it's only an hypothesis.

You've beautiful Golden Greeks! I love this kind of spur-thighed tortoise ;)
Forgive me for my poor english :D

@VgirlAi
your english is just perfect , non te preocupare ;)
Besides this's an italian forum so i'm the foreign one , i must improve my italian and make some efforts .

@Frenchy
Good questions
as far as i know there are like 5 or 6 different colors/tonalities accepted for testudo graeca terrestris , i believe this resulted from merge of different sub-species in nature .they use to be present in almost all middle east like syria,lebanon jordania and israel . In the papers say they're from jordania but normally the more lighter are from jordania and others from lebanon/syria . Pure HIGH YELLOW i've only 3 , 2 female,1 male(i was kinda obliged to buy 9 to have those high yellow as some are more alike to ibera or anamurensis despite different morphology) and this characteristic occurs from gens and in many species more , not only in terrestris .
i keep 'em at night inside and outside during the day as long as the temperature is ~25 celsius or more . definetely it's more like klenimanni as they dont tolerate both low temperatures and from moderate to high humidity . due to tech difficulties to maintain them in correct setup(humidity below 30%) they use to have nasal mucus , but you know , this is kinda chronic disease among graecas(kind of rhinitis,only afecting respiratory upper tract) originated from stress from others, inside/outside, and even if i administrate any meds, after some months all returns - anyway i use to avoid bad breathing and dehydratation cause by this pathology with some salt baths .
About hibernation , they dont hibernate actually , but i use to "force" some kind of hibernation-brumation during from end of december to middle of february - no more than 2 months of semi-hibernation to get them more healthier and full powered to breed in spring .
i didn't succeed breeding them so far i expect it this year , they have average of 10Y.O. so breeding can occurs from 7-8 y.o. but from readings i know sometimes females can be prepared only at the age of 15 y.o. so i really don't know .Anyway it's being kinda weird , as the dominant male is changing from year to year , and this "fight" for dominance only occurs between 2 males because the high yellow one is quite peaceful .as they seem to have more or less the same age the dominance it's not about weight as the male1 have ~900gr and the dominant one(male2) only ~650gr . it is the very same with my horsfieldii-the younger male appears to be the dominant one despite of the considerable difference of size and weight .
there's a good approach of TGT in HERE-WCT Site
Salut Frenchy :)

oh man they're so different "in loco" , much more beautiful . i'll try to make some photos of the trio . aint did it yet because of the unstable weather here , they're indoors with a spot of 45 celsius and i fear if i take them outdoors , even for a couple of minutes for photos they could get ill or something .in fact the male is being medicated due to respiratory issue . i was always affraid to pay so much money for some kleinmanni due to their sensitiveness but these ones are just the same .
i'll stay in touch for sure Frenchy and hope we could meet in Cesena 2008 , among all of you TCI memebers .
looking forward to see those chinese golden greeks , particulary in japan they achieve outstanding selection of species , besides they have $$$ :)

by the way i'm looking for homopus,psammobates,pixys and chersinas if anyone know where to buy it for a fair price let me know .i'm waiting for a contact from my friend in south africa maybe i could achieve some homopus psammobates and chersinas .it's quite amazing as chersinas are like a "plague" there and are forbidden to sell and export . my friend feed dozens everyday and they live near his country house .
